Welcome to Erewash Class!

Our Geography unit this half term is...

We will be developing our knowledge and understanding about 'Extreme Weather'

  • What is inside the Earth and how is it structured?
  • Why do earthquakes happen and where do they occur?
  • What is a volcano and how does it erupt?
  • What is a tsunami and what causes it?
  • How do earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis affect people and the environment?
  • How do people prepare for and respond to extreme Earth events?

This half term, we are Artists!

We will be developing our designing skills...

  • I can use different techniques to make my artwork stronger and more stable.

  • I can use research and ideas to help me plan my artwork.

  • I can develop my ideas through sketching, modelling and experimenting with materials.

  • I can communicate my ideas clearly through drawing, painting, sculpture or other creative work.

Guided Reading

In Guided Reading we will be focussing on the text, “The Valley of the Lost Secrets” by Lesley Parr. This story is set at the start of the Second World War in 1939. The story follows Jimmy, a young boy evacuated from London to a small village in Wales with his younger brother. Struggling with homesickness and the challenges of fitting in, Jimmy feels angry and alone. When he discovers a mysterious skull hidden in a tree, he is drawn into uncovering secrets from the village’s past. As Jimmy investigates, he begins to build friendships and discovers courage, kindness and a sense of belonging in unexpected places. I am sure the children will love this story and we will have some brilliant class and group discussions.

English

In English, we will be writing a historical setting using our Guided Reading Book to support us in our writing.

We will then be using our formal voices to write persuasive letters about the threats to Iceland.

Maths

In Maths, we will be deepening our knowledge of fractions, mass and capacity and time.
