Who are our governors?
I have been a governor at Shardlow Primary School for over 10 years, Chair of Governors for the past 7 years and am currently a Director of Willows Academy Trust. I have also been a magistrate since 1999 sitting in both adult and youth courts as a bench chair.
My background is in accountancy, helping my husband in his practice and , for many years running my own business completing VAT returns for clients. I am now retired which means that I can give as much time as is required to the school.
I am a Parent Governor. I became a Governor a few months ago as I have two children currently attending the school and I wanted to become more involved in the management of the school. My background is in Business – I have an MSc in Supply Chain Management and a Degree in Business Studies and I am a Supply Chain Manager at JJ Churchill Ltd. I have also worked in Purchasing at JCB for ten years and at Rolls-Royce for five years. I hope to use my skills and experience to the benefit of the school and I recently became Chair of the Resource Committee to enable me to do so.
I have lived in Shardlow for 42 years, married to a Farmer and partner in the business. I trained as a Home Economics Teacher, taught in Buxton until I got married. My three children attended Shardlow School and now I have 3 Grandchildren who also attend, making them the third generation to attend the school.
I obtained an Open University degree in Social Studies in the 1980s.
I am currently Chair of the Children and Learning sub-committee. I have been a Parish Councillor for over 30 years serving 2 terms as Chair. Currently I am the Parish Council's representative on School Governors and this is my 5th year as a Governor.
On the Parish Council I sit on 2 Quarry liaison committees.
I am very much involved with Derbyshire Federation of WIs, having previously been its Chair for 3 years and have served on a NFWI sub-committee for 3 years. Currently I teach twice a month; Preservation classes for adults and give cookery demonstrations to voluntary groups throughout Derbyshire.
The skills and attributes I bring to the Governors include a knowledge of the education system; a wide range of knowledge of the village and the school’s stakeholders; experience of committees and a love of learning.
I am a parent governor and have two children at the school. I am the newest member of the team.
I wanted to become a governor to support develop the ethos of children’s social and emotional development being as important as academia.
I work part time for CAMHS (Child & Adolescent Mental Health Services) and also have a cake/baking business and so with two small children it is wonderful chaos at home!
